Acupuncture is an ancient practice rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), designed to promote healing and restore balance within the body. By inserting fine, sterile needles into specific points on the skin, acupuncture stimulates the body’s natural healing processes, relieving pain, reducing inflammation, and improving overall well-being. It is especially effective for treating musculoskeletal issues such as back pain, tension, and sports injuries, making it an excellent complement to sports massage therapy. Acupuncture helps enhance recovery, relieve stress, and support long-term physical health.

Generally, massage is safe for most people, however there are health factors which are known as contraindications which can restrict massage for some people. These will be spoken about during the consultation and the therapist will outline what treatments are safe for the client.
Massage will relax muscle tissue which will increase range of motion, joint spaces and a decrease in nerve compression. By keeping up with regular treatments massage will reduce pain and improve functions throughout the body. Massage is very good for reducing stress levels too.
You can, however to get the most out of the treatment it is not advised. The advice from the therapist is to normally take it easy for the next 24 hours to let the body recover after the treatment.
There are points that throughout the massage it may be painful but it is important to speak to your therapist throughout the treatment so they can gauge what is too much. Trigger point therapy and cupping therapy are normally more painful than the massage itself.
Generally the advice from a therapist will be to have a treatment every month. Different factors will influence the length between each session but normally to keep in good health once a month is advised.
A deep tissue massage will focus on releasing tension throughout the body, whereas a sports massage will focus on certain areas that may have suffered from overuse, this type of injury may have caused a strain or a sprain which will need specific soft tissue treatment.
I have completed my level 3 & 4 sports massage with a structural rebalancing module in there too. I also have qualifications to complete the following treatments; Kinesiology taping, Vacuum/Fire cupping and a Rockblades course.
These will often be used during treatments to help with injuries and niggles that struggle to release off by hand.
Generally the answer will be no. However if you have cupping then there is the potential for marks to be left for the coming days. These are not anything to worry about, they are just where the cup was placed to release tension in the muscle.
